Dollar Dollar Bill Y’all

Well, I finally went and did it. For those who don’t know, in June 2001, I started driving a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. When I got it, the car had about 42,000 miles it. Ninety-thousand miles later….I traded it in for a lease on a 2006 Nissan Altima.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the car. I also test drove the 2007 Ford Fusion and 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. Overall, I felt the Altima was roomier, quieter, and offered better options than the Fusion or Malibu. The price difference was negligible, with the Altima actually being cheaper than the Malibu. I still have to do some organizing for the compartments and the stuff in the trunk…let’s just say I had too much junk and crap to transfer to the new car from the Monte Carlo.

Also, I ordered subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal and The Economist. A little expensive, but worth it. I would definately recommend getting these. The online version of the WSJ is great….all the articles available in the print edition and there are plenty of online extras. There’s also a bunch of industry and company monitoring tools to make sure you don’t miss anything on a topic you want to know about.

Top 10 Ignored News Stories

Wandering around FARK, I happened upon a story titled “Ten major news stories the media is ignoring” from MarketWatch.com. Here are the stories they have picked…

  • The Feds and the media muddy the debate over Internet freedom
  • Halliburton charged with selling nuclear technology to Iran
  • World oceans in extreme danger
  • Hunger and homelessness increasing in the United States
  • High-tech genocide in Congo
  • Federal whistleblower protection in jeopardy
  • U.S. operatives torture detainees to death in Afghanistan and Iraq
  • Pentagon exempt from Freedom of Information Act
  • World Bank funds Israel-Palestine wall
  • Expanded air war in Iraq kills more civilians

I’m not so sure the press is under-reporting the torture of detainees, or the civilian deaths in Iraq. I agree with the other ones, especially the one about Internet freedom and Halliburton selling nuclear technology to Iran. Each deserves more coverage than, say, some wacko that claimed to have murdered Jon Benet Ramsey.

Fun Pictures

Well, I’ve been on vacation for the past week. No, I didn’t go anywhere. The past two or three months have been crazy with a lot of travel for work, but overall it was a good time. As a result, I’ve been able to post a lot of pictures that have been taken over the summer. Here they are…

Not much else to report. Spent most of the week watching movies and hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a while. Also, I’m moving in a couple weeks, so that should be interesting.
