Apparently, the legislature of Idaho is considering the issuance of a commendation to the creators of Napoleon Dynamite. Wow….just wow. (0) #

I bought a Corvette!

Well, I’ve gone and done it. On 11/12/05, I purchased a 2000 Corvette convertible! I bought it from a guy in Northville, MI, and it’s in amazing shape. Only 14,800 miles when I got it. The past couple weeks I’ve been able to drive it, but since it started snowing yesterday, I don’t think that will be happening for a while :-)

I’ve created an album in the gallery, so you can view the awesomeness of this vehicle in there. I’ll be sure to take more pictures when I can, currently the ones that are in there aren’t from my camera. So they aren’t really good quality, but you can get a decent look at the car.

Very exciting, and it’s such an amazing car to drive. Can’t wait till the upcoming spring and summer so I can really start enjoying this car!

Just a quick note to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! (0) #

new photo manager

After an ill-fated venture into the usage of the Simple PHP Gallery (SPG) (evidence, the link doesn’t work), I’ve decided to start utilizing Gallery v2. Obviously, this will still require me to update the photos on a regular basis, which was lacking with even the previous version.

The main issue with SPG was that the caching of thumbnails and resized images would not work. Whether this was due to my ineptness with figuring out how to configure the software, or simply it didn’t work at all, remains a mystery. However, I know that Gallery does this quite well.

So, after installation of the software, I selected a theme for it, and off we went. Right now there are only a few pictures up there now, mainly from my company’s 2004 Holiday Party. Yes, I know it’s 2005, but those images were the easiest ones to get up there from the computer I’m currently using.

So, I hope no one had any very precious links that required the link structure created when I was using SPG. But, then again, there were like six pictures in there to begin with. There is a link on the sidebar for the new gallery, or you can just go here.

Sometimes I wonder what the real purpose of covering cubicle walls with fabric is. Obviously, it’s stated purpose is to reduce “white noise” from reaching your coworkers ears, like keyboard chatter or Betty gossiping with her mom. Could a more sinister reason be to prevent coworkers from hearing each other’s moans and cries of agony from being stuck in such a prison? (0) #

Zimbra is a great looking open-source, AJAX powered, web-based e-mail client. (0) #

Google is at it again with another fun toy. This time, they’ve developed a Java app for mobile phones that allows access to Google Maps. Go to http://google.com/glm for more info. (0) #

Mini-Posts!

If it’s not obvious, I’ve spent some time tonight wandering around the net, and working on the site. To be included now is the plug-in MiniPosts, by Morgan Doocy. After searching around on the WP Codex, and trying out a different one that ended up not being exactly what I wanted, this was the winner.

The install is very simple, and it seems that I can adjust the posts to look however I want them to. It’s not quite up to snuff yet on my site, there are a couple formatting things that I would like to do, but it does work. The hope is that this will allow me to post a little more frequently. As Matt so eloquently stated, “The format of a weblog dictates its writing.”

It seems that we’ll be able to experience more of the same when Ben Bernanke takes over as chair of The Federal Reserve, according to this article. (0) #

Delphi Lawyer

Another interesting article found tonight, this one related to the bankruptcy of Delphi Corp. The powers that be have approved an hourly rate of $835 for the law firm handling the bankruptcy. Without detail, I don’t know how to justify or criticize that decision. At first light, it seems a bit high, considering the average rate for a lawyer in Michigan is about $150 an hour, per some research over at PayScale.com.

Additionally, the court approved additional severance pay for some of Delphi’s executives in the event they are fired or leave for “good reason.” There was a big discussion right when the bankruptcy was filed because of these severance plans, for better or worse. The whole idea of executive pay is a lengthy discussion, but generally these are the sorts of things that come to light when a company restates earnings, lays off workers, files for bankruptcy, etc.

Investigation Worthy?

I find it amusing that Congress feels an investigation into high profits at oil companies is worth their time. Do our senators and representatives need to go back to high school and re-learn basic supply and demand theory? Gee, the price of oil is higher than it’s ever been, driven by political, social, and natural causes. I would be questioning them if they couldn’t produce high profits.

A editor at the National Review basically sums it up in this article. I wasn’t aware of Congress looking to add an extra tax on these high profits, but after reading some other related articles, it appears this is being discussed. Granted, the lower income families in the USA may be suffering financially as a result of high gas prices. However, an effective market economy will “right the ship,” so to speak. Legislating in the area of price ceilings and additional taxes for oil companies will only result in more accounting tricks and barriers to conduct business.

jello shots!

Wandering around the intarweb results in some great finds. For evidence of this, look no further than the Jello Shot Experiment. These fine scientists have performed a controlled experiment to determine the optimum amount of vodka to add for Jello shots.

In summary, I believe their results call for a recipe of:

  • 10 oz. Vodka (80 proof)
  • 4 oz. Boiling water
  • 2 oz. Cold water
  • 3 oz. Jell-O gelatin (one 4-serving package, Orange or Lime flavor)

Their results actually state that more vodka can be used with satisfactory results, but I have a feeling the taste of the jello shot would decline. As such, perhaps the above recipe will be used for the next time I have people over.
