exhausted

i’m freakin’ tired. I spent last night in Kalamazoo with Lisa, and we stayed up too late. After dinner with my buddy Sam at Olde Peninsula, Lisa and I didn’t get back to her house till almost 9:00. Then, we went and got a movie and watched that. Add in some time to just chill and chat with my girlfriend, and all of a sudden it’s midnight. And I have to be up in 6.5 hours….

Which is quite intriguing, since I used to be able to go on that amount of sleep with no problem when I was in school. Now, I need at least 7, preferably 8 hours of sleep to function correctly for the whole next day.

I’m going to look at some furniture with my mom tonight in Lansing, so that might be fun. We’ll see what the Art Van in Lansing has to offer. Lisa’s away message says she is in Lansing, but I don’t know why. Maybe she is trying to surprise me and hang out with me tonight. That would be just too cool since she’s leaving for a whole month starting on May 3. I guess I’ll try calling her when I take off from work…

I’m really struggling at work. I have a few things to do, but I desperately need to get motivated and get them done. I’ve been really lazy this week, but the week has flew by so fast. It’s already Thursday, and I feel like it’s Tuesday. So that’s a good thing….other than the fact that I still have lots to do and I am really tired.

org unit

Don’t really know what the title means, but oh well. Currently at a client in Jackson, MI, and taking some time out of my day to write in here. Actually, it’s supposed to be lunchtime, but I haven’t eaten yet. I find that I like eating later in the afternoon, say around 1:00 or so, simply because it then makes the day seem to finish out faster. Plus, I’m not that hungry when everyone wants to go to lunch at 11:45 or 12:00.

I’ve been pretty good about studying so far this week, but I think that’ll take a downward slide as I head to Kalamazoo tonight. Probably won’t get much studying done tonight, and if I go to stay at the parents tomorrow night, I probably won’t get much done there either. On the plus side, I have been exercising this week, and I will plan on getting some of that in both of these nights.

I’m also re-reading the 7 Habits book by Stephen Covey. I find that when guidance is needed, or I need help considering what is going on in my life, that book really helps me figure things out. So much so, that I don’t even have to read the whole thing. The farthest I’ve made it is the end of chapter 3. Maybe this time I’ll read it all the way through to say I did.

Well, I am gettting hungry now, so I think I’ll go grab my lunch. Some people near me have brought food that smells really good, so I need to have something to eat. Off I go…

other things…

Well, it’s been some time since I made that last post, and things are going much better. Lisa and I had a good time together this past weekend, and I get to go see her tomorrow night. The reason behind my visit to Kalamazoo tomorrow is not the greatest though. My old boss at Computing Services (i worked there when attending school at WMU) had a death in his family. Specifically, his 14 year old daughter passed away in a car accident. Very tragic, and I really feel….well, I don’t know what I feel. But I do feel that I should attend the visitation, and at least talk to the guy. Hopefully it’ll make him feel a little better, and let him know that I still care about his well-being.

Onto brighter things. Lisa is leaving for Europe for the month of May (that’s brighter? nah, just part of the story), so it’s nice I get to see her tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have class all day on Saturday, so I will only get to see her Saturday night and most of the day on Sunday, instead of the whole weekend. She actually leaves on Tuesday…

I’m also looking at buying furniture. I went browsing at Art Van on Sunday, but didn’t really see anything I really liked. I’ve been looking at bedroom sets and entertainment centers. I’m sure something will show up. I plan on looking at the Art Van locations in Kalamazoo and Lansing also, just to see what they have. My goal is to get all this stuff taken care of by the end of May, since June is when I’ll start to be out of town nearly every week, and I have class every single Saturday for that whole month.

I’ve had my Gentoo box set up for quite sometime now, I just haven’t made the migration over to it. I think that I need to spend the money and get a network storage device, since that will really allow me to move between the two systems, and hopefully move most of my daily computing onto the Gentoo box.

Not much else is going on. I’m going to go make some dinner, and then I have to study some more (yay!)….

us again

After this past weekend, I can’t help but relate to the following lyrics of the song “Let’s Be Us Again” by Lone Star…

Tell me what I have to do tonight,
‘Cause I’d do anything to make it right.
Let’s be us again.
Sorry for the way I lost my head,
I don’t know why I said the things I said.
Let’s be us again.
Here I stand with everything to lose,
And all I know is, I don’t wanna ever see the end.
Baby, please, I’m reaching out for you,
Won’t you open up your heart an’ let me come back in?
Let’s be us again,
Ooh, us again.
Look at me, I’m way past pride.
Isn’t there some way that we can try,
To be us again.
An’ even if it takes a while,
I’ll wait right here until I see that smile,
That says we’re us again.
Here I stand with everything to lose,
And all I know is, I don’t wanna ever see the end.
Baby, please, I’m reaching out for you,
Won’t you open up your heart an’ let me come back in?
Let’s be us.
Baby, baby, what would I do?
Can’t imagine life without you.
Here I stand with everything to lose,
And all I know is, I don’t wanna ever see the end.
Baby, please, I’m reaching out for you,
Won’t you open up your heart an’ let me come back in?
Oh, here I am, I’m reaching out for you,
So won’t you open up your heart an’ let me come back in?
Let’s be us again.
Oh, let’s be us again.

Comment: I desperately need to work on this website. I just spent 5 minutes trying to get these lyrics to look better, using breaks and pre tags, to no avail. Nothing works…oh well, I think anyone reading can get the picture

fun weekend planned

This weekend is definately shaping up to be a good one. I’m going to be in Kalamazoo for the weekend. We are all going to the bar on Thursday night, and Waldo’s is the establishment of choice, so if your up to it, come on out. After that, Lisa and I, along with Pat and Pam, are going to go horseback riding. That should be an excellent time. The whole weekend is going to be pretty damn fun since I get to spend time with my awesome girlfriend! :-)

Ok, now for the calm down period…much better.

I finally got my Notice to Schedule from the AICPA, so I scheduled my exam for next Friday (4/23). I might not get to do as must studying as I’d like this weekend, since I’m going to be with friends (namely, Lisa), but I think it should be okay. I’ve been studying my ass off for about a week, so I deserve a refreshing break. Kim is going to let me take off work from Wednesday, so that is really going to help my mind prepare for the test.

On top of that, I’m at my parents house tonight. Mom and Dad cooked me some really good dinner (spaghetti), and I was able to get quite a bit of studying done. I haven’t got a chance to talk to my Mom much tonight, so I think I’m going to go do that….

the day is long…

ow…i was just trying to come up with a title for this entry, and I realized that I can remember most of the entry titles from the past. This is key because of the inadequate design of some the functions on my blog software. When I designed/wrote it, I keyed on the entry title to do some things, if I remember correctly it deals with making an update to the entry or bringing the entry into the archives. Either way, this leads to the next point.

Once I’m done with this whole CPA exam thing, I’m going to undertake a serious redesign of the site and the blog software. I’ve been kicking around some ideas for the appearance of the site for about a week now, and that might actually get to take place before the CPA stuff is done. Writing CSS and markup isn’t as taxing on your brain as creating a blog software is.

A lot of this is centered around my reading of some new CSS material and doign research on other people’s sites. I don’t exactly know what I’m going to do with the layout and appearance, but it will probably have some better graphics.

I know I’ve been talking about doing work on the site for quite some time now, and nothing has happened. I can’t say that anything will will happen in the near future, but I am constantly thinking about new ways to do things and such. I don’t know what will come out of it, but I’m sure it’ll all work out.

On a totally unrelated note, Smitty has started updating his blog again. He never has anything really technical to talk about, but his musings on the world we live in are most humorous, and sometimes even border on insightful. He also writes for the Cavalier Daily, and you can see the articles here.

I don’t know what else to add. Work is unbelievably boring right now, especially since there is no one here. Bruce took off about an hour ago, and the rest of my coworkers are working from the home office in Bloomfield Hills or in downtown Detroit. I was coming back from Kalamazoo, so it just made sense to stop here and work. Speaking of, I should probably get back to doing that…

cpa woes

I’m getting a little ancy about the CPA exam. I am looking to take the Regulation portion of the exam within the next week, and I still haven’t got my Notice to Schedule from the AICPA. That’s the form/information that allows me to schedule my exam time with the testing center. Talk about cutting it down to the wire. After talking with Kim, my senior at PwC, I don’t even know if I’ll be able to take the exam when I want to. Oh well, not much I can do about it, just wait and hope for the best.

It’s been quite some time since I wrote in here. Not much has been going on. Lisa and I had a really good time last weekend. First we hung out at her parents house on Friday night and most of the day on Saturday. They’re out of town, so we had the whole place to ourselves :-) Then, Saturday night we drove up to my parents. After a short chat with my dad, we went out to MSU to go bowling with Pat (my friend) and Pam (Lisa’s friend). That was a good time. Sunday morning we had breakfast with my parents, and then we went back to our respective homes :-)

I don’t have much else to say. I was just thinking about it, and my life has drastically calmed down over the past 3 weeks. I have a regular assortment of things I do, and a good schedule worked out. Life is going pretty damn well.

Tomorrow I’m going to spend the night in K-zoo with Lisa (very excited about that) since I’m working in Jackson. It’s exactly halfway, so it works out quite well. I’m surprised I haven’t done that more often, since Jackson has been my work home for most of the past two months.

Next weekend is the big party weekend with Lisa’s internship party and the end of tax season. Yes we are accounting dorks, but hey, who ever faulted someone for finding a reason to party?
