The Zen of CSS…

I just found an awesome CSS site. I was looking at a thread on Slashdot, and came across…

CSS Zen Garden

Basically, the site is sort of a contest/display area for graphic and web designers to hone their skills with CSS. I haven’t really delved into the code behind any of the examples, but I think it’ll contain some neat tricks. OK, gotta get back to work now…

Oakville, Ontario III

It’s my last night here in Oakville, and I guess I can’t say the trip has been all that bad. The area is really nice, and the hotel was good. I didn’t sleep all that well on the bed, but oh well. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to come back here on Monday with my senior to some follow-up work. We should be able to leave on Tuesday evening though. The good part about all that is I’m not driving :-)

Not much else is going on. I talked to my buddy Mike, and it finally looks like he’s going to be getting a job. He has a final interveiw next Friday with Accenture, so we’ll see how that goes for him. I hope he gets the job, since it’s in Chicago and it sounds really cool.

I might be going to Washington DC for a weekend again this summer. Pat is going to be out there, so I figure I should go visit. We should be able to have a good time, and possibly Mike can come out. We’d have the old crew in full force.

Lisa is coming to visit tomorrow, so I’m really excited about that. I’m really excited for just about everything…I’m going back home tomorrow, I’m going to see Lisa, my brother is coming in to town…it’s just going to be a really good weekend.

Hopefully I’ll have some time to make another entry this weekend. I really like writing in this thing now. Maybe I’ll try to make this more of a personal journal, and put some content up. We’ll see how that all works out once I’m done with this CPA exam crap…

Oakville, Ontario II

Too bad I can’t come up with some more interesting names for these entries, but oh well. So for my second night in Oakville, it’s not too bad. I went out to dinner with my fellow coworkers to this really nice restaurant called Stoneboat. I had lobster tail and filet mignon. We also split a bottle of wine. I always eat really good when we’re working… :-)

Not much else to report. I can’t really talk about work, since it’s all about the client and their confidential information. So rule out that topic. About the only other thing I did tonight was study for the exam, chat online, and talk to Lisa for about 40 minutes.

I really hope that we get to leave early on Friday. I’d like to get back home no later than 7:00 PM, but I have a feeling that I’m going to get there at 9:00 PM, which just isn’t good. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to deal with it.

My buddy Mike called and left me a voicemail last night after I was in Canada. He’s having some party on April 3rd, and I’m 50/50 on if I am going to participate. Becker is having this “cram” session for the exam on that day, so I think that I probably should go to that. Yes, I know that I’m a dull, boring guy compared to 5 months ago, but I just have to get through this CPA thing. Then I can start having fun again. Either way, since I haven’t talked to him in a while, I’m going to give him a call tomorrow night.

Oakville, Ontario I

I’m in Oakville, Ontario for the week (near Toronto), doing some work at a client nearby. I drove up here with my coworker Mohamed, and we had a pretty good time on the car ride up here. Let me tell ya, there isn’t much between Detroit and Oakville. I think the drive can best be summed up as extremely boring. It was good that I had someone to keep me company, otherwise I might have gone insane.

One thing that I want to kind of nail down this week is my studying for the CPA exam. I attended the last Regulation class on Saturday, and I’m going to be taking the test in mid-April. There is a cram session on April 3, and I have a lot of studying to do for the exam. I think since I’m out of town, I’ll be able to really get some of it done, but we’ll see. I didn’t get much done tonight, but thats another topic.

On Saturday, my dad came down and we went out to the neighborhood bar. We had a great time together, watching some basketball games and having dinner. Unfortunately, my dad had to sleep in my bed, so I got stuck with the couch. Very uncomfortable, and I didn’t sleep well. Thus, I got up at around 7:30, and haven’t been back to bed since. After a 4 hour drive, I definately, didn’t feel like studying tonight. Oh well…

I think I’m going to try and get this blog to be less of a personal diary, and more of something else. What that something else is, I haven’t figured out yet. I don’t really have anything that I’m too passionate about, at least to the extent that I want to write about it. I really like updating this with the events that happen in my life, but I don’t know how much people care to read it. Personally, I percieve my life as pretty mundane and boring.

Lisa is going to be visiting this weekend, and we’re going to have a great time. I don’t exactly know what we’re doing, but it will be fun. Friday night really depends on what time I get back from Oakville. I know that we have to go to the mall and get the ring I bought for her birthday resized, so that is on the to-do list. We haven’t been to the movies for quite some time, so I think that is also on the to-do list.

Wow, I’ve written a lot. I think I’m going to sign off and head for bed. More to come in entries later this week…

I want one!

good things

Life is finally starting to settle down (knock on wood). I’m starting to get in a routine around the apartment, and life is generally going alright. Of course, this is all compared to the mood I was in on Sunday and Monday…

Let me start by saying that overall, I shouldn’t really complain about the weekend I spent with Lisa for her birthday. When we were out of the house, we had a GREAT time together, and it was just phenomenal. For whatever reason though, at other times, I was really moody and insecure about the relationship. I don’t know why, but I just was. I was making stuff up in my mind about how she felt and far-off scenarios, instead of just enjoying my time with her.

I basically snapped out of that mode sometime yesterday. My mom, dad, and a couple very important friends helped me get through it, and just realize what’s important. I love the girl, and I’m going to not be so stressed out about her or the rest of my life for a change.

Sure, I’ll have bad days, and I know that I’ll get worried about some things. But overall, my life is going pretty damn well right now. I don’t need to be making problems for myself, which is what I was doing over the weekend, and into the beginning of this week.

So enough of that babble. Lots more fun stuff to talk about than that. For instance, take Lisa’s b-day gifts. I really spoiled her, even to the point where I think I did too much. Let’s start with gifts: makeup bag, disposable cameras (for her trip to Europe), a photo album, and a jewelery set (necklace, earrings, and ring; aquamarine stones in each). On top of that, I got her a huge cookie from Ms. Fields. Lastly, I met her at the business college when she got out of class and I had a dozen roses to give her.

Yes, I spoiled the hell out of her.

My thoughts on that whole thing were that I don’t really get a chance to give gifts for her till Christmas, so I should get some good ones in. So there… :-P

Hmmmm…what else. Oh yeah. I got moved off my engagement in North Carolina for the week of 4/12, so now I can go to this party on 4/15 that Lisa is having with the firm she did an internship at. And I get to take Friday off. I’m really happy that I get to do this, since Lisa really wants me to come. I might also get a chance to attend the Beta Alpha Psi banquet as an alumni for the first time!

Next week I’m going to be in/around Toronto, so that should be interesting. Unfortunately, I have to drive there, so that is no good. But, I’ll make good money on the milage at least…

She’s 21!

Just in case she reads this thing, I’d like to wish her a happy birthday. We are going to the bar this weekend, so if anyone wants to join in the festivities, just let me know.

Oh let me see here…I spoiled her pretty damn well this time. I didn’t do as well as I would have liked for Valentine’s Day, so I’m making up for it now. Plus, there isn’t really an occasion to get anything for her until Christmas, so I went all out on this one. :-)

Oh yeah, I had a birthday last weekend! I forgot to mention what Lisa got me for that. She got me another pair of silk boxers (very nice!), The Family Guy season 3 dvd’s (very cool), a candle, and a waffle maker (I needed one of those) for the new apartment. I don’t think I’m forgetting anything, at least for the physical gifts. Outside of that, Lisa was VERY “nice” to me last weekend… ;-)

off to the zoo

I’m not really going to the zoo, but I am going to Kalamazoo. It’s Lisa’s 21st birthday, so we are heading out to the bar. Shakespeare’s Pub on Friday, and the Bresa del Rio on Saturday. We’re also going to dinner with her parents on Thursday night. Overall, this weekend has the look of being pretty damn good. However, I still haven’t decided what to get her as a present.

Other than that, nothing really exciting going on. I took work off on Monday, so I could organize the new apartment. It’s looking pretty good, I just have to finish up some small things like hanging pictures and going through paperwork that built up over the time I lived at my cousin’s house.

Last night was study time for most of the night, and then I talked with Lisa on the phone. Asleep by 10:30 or so, I think. Yeah, I know, that’s a pretty boring night. But I’m pretty happy with life overall right now, so I can’t complain. The only real issue is the damn CPA course and tests, which takes up a huge chunk of time. If I didn’t have that stuff, it might be possible to spend some more time on this site.

I should get back to work now… :-)

vorky

Don’t quite know what vorky is, but if anyone cares to figure it out, then just let me know…

So I got a lot of studying done last night for the CPA exam. However, I am still behind in the course. I need to pick it up. If I can have 3 nights like that next week, plus a good study session on Sunday, then I’ll be good. Overall, the information up till now has actually been interesting, but I think thats about to change. Tomorrow we’re going to be starting the tax section of the course (ugh).

Lisa is coming to visit this weekend, which is really nice of her. She was over here last weekend helping me move, so this is definately not necessary. I think she’s going going to be having dinner with a friend tonight, then coming to my place. This is good, since it will give me a chance to study some more and maybe clean up the place a bit.

And, on top of all that, tomorrow is my birthday! Thats right…24 years ago on March 6, 1980, the world was forever changed when I was born! Hmmmm…maybe not, but it’s at least nice to think so.

Well, since I am at work, and I probably should be “working,” I have to get back to that. Gator trap on regular streets guys, get to it…

As I was wandering, I remembered that I hadn’t posted linkage in a long time. For your viewing pleasure, I present:

not that bad

Well, after a very long weekend, I’m finally moved into my new apartment. It’s in Southgate, MI, and I think I’m going to like it here a lot. It’s a bit of a drive to get anywhere, but down here there isn’t as much traffic as there is up along I-696.

My job is going…well…ok. I’m having a really tough time figuring out what I’m supposed to be doing. Everyone is really nice, and they kind of help me when I ask, but I just don’t get the whole thing. It will come in time, but it’s hard right now.

Other than that, I really don’t have much to complain about. I’ve been having a rough time lately, but thinking about tonight on my drive home, I’m not that bad off. I have a really awesome job (despite it not being great right now), a wonderful girlfriend (yay Lisa!), parents and friends that are really good, and I’m slowly acclimating myself to “life” here in the Metro Detroit area. The only bad part is the studying for the CPA exam, which basically takes up at least one hour, most of the time two hours, every night. Along with every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

I’m off to get ready for tomorrow….
