tough stuff

Today was kinda interesting. First, to start off, I was up till about 12:30 last night talking with Lisa. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but I had to be in class at 8:00 this morning. Class is 40 minutes away. That means if I want to shower, and get some breakfast, then I need to getting up no later than 6:45.

Well, the alarm went off at 6:35, and I turned it off. I then proceeded to get back in bed, my thought process being that I would get up in a couple minutes. I slept till 7:27, and then had to rush up to class in Farmington Hills. So thats how my day started…

Class is very interesting. For those that don’t know, the class I’m talking about is the BeckerConviser CPA Review Course. Right now were covering a bunch of law stuff, like contracts, securities laws, agency, etc. Very interesting stuff, at least to me. But I think that stuff is finished as of today, and now we’re going to be learning the tax laws (nasty stuff).

I kinda wish I had not decided to stay in Riverview tonight. I should have gone to my parents, or over to Kalamazoo to visit friends. I thought I might be able to find some people to go out with over here, but I didn’t call enough people or something. So I’m stuck here at the apartment writing this. Not horrible, but overall this evening hasn’t been very exciting.

Next weekend is the big move, and shortly thereafter I should be back on broadband. These 6 or 7 weeks without it at my current place of residence has been brutal. I haven’t been able to read FARK or fazed to the extent I’d like to. I also haven’t been able to really do any of the development that I’d like to be doing on the site. Once I get settled, maybe we’ll see some changes on here…

hotels

Random thought…

Hotels need to provide more entertainment in the room. I mean, come on, I don’t want to simply watch tv. Let’s get something like a basketball hoop or stripper poles in each room.

I went out on Saturday, and got a new phone from the Sprint PCS store. I did it on a whim (sort of), and got the Samsung VI660. Nice little phone, lots of features, but not too complicated like some of the other new phones. But then I got the replacement phone (Sony Ericsson T68i) on Monday from T-Mobile…and that is where the problem comes in.

The Sony Ericsson T68i is just a phenomenal phone for me. It has Bluetooth, it’s small, it’s cool….I just can’t say enough about how much i like the phone. The problems that I had with it are related (in my opinion) to the service through T-Mobile.

So the end result of all this is that I think I’m going to return the Sprint PCS phone, and wait a couple months to switch. The only reason I think I would switch would be to take advantage of the discounts on some plans. Plus, ATT Wireless and Cingular might merge, so that could create a really big GSM carrier to compete with T-Mobile.

Enough about cell phones…

Valentines Day is coming up, and Lisa is coming to Detroit. As I mentioned before, I’ve got some good presents for her, and good plans for the weekend. She said that she’ll make me some lunch for when I get back from the CPA course on Saturday, which is really nice of her

Speaking of the CPA course, I registered for that about a week ago. It’s through Becker Conviser, and I have to go up to Farmington Hills every Saturday for like the next 6 months. Kinda annoying, but necessary. Once I get the CPA licensure, I have it forever, so I should do this now while I have the time and energy.

Tomorrow it’s back to Jackson, so goodnight everyone…

hmmm….back to having relevant entry titles i guess.

So my cell phone hasn’t been working since Monday. It’s now Wednesday night, and I won’t have working one until Friday. Talk about a headache. On the landline phone with tech support every day since Monday, had to go to the T-Mobile store, blah blah blah blah. Did I mention how big of a headache this is?

My mom was making fun of me because I was so mad about this whole thing. She was like “And to think, we didn’t even have these things 15 years ago…what did we do with ourselves?” Very sarcastically might I add. I think it’s about the same situation for me right now since I really don’t have another phone damn it.

Anyway…I’m in Jackson for most of this week, and all of next. After that I get to go to Tennessee for a week. Hopefully it’ll be warmer there. The weekend before I go there is the big Valentine’s Day.

I would spell out the plans and such, along with what gifts I got Lisa. But she reads this once in a while. So I can’t really do that. But it will definately be a good time, and just let me say that her gifts are really good. :-)

tennessee

Well, I’m sitting here at the client in Tennessee, and I’m waiting for my senior to reveiw my work. Not much to do other than type this, so here we go.

I am currently entering this in Notepad, simply because we only have one broadband connection in this room. Since I can’t be online right now, I have to make do with the tools at hand. Hence, the selection of the mighty Notepad program.

Work this week has basically been one big pain. I’m down here in Tennessee at the client, and I’m the only one from my group here. Let me remind you that I only started this job seven weeks ago, and that this is my first real engagement for the job I’m supposed to be doing. I was involved last week in some internal audit work, but thats not really what my job is supposed to entail. At least, not from the impression that I got at training.

Which is another point of contention with the whole trip. I was told time and time again in training that I would not be “on my own” or working without the close supervision of a senior. Guess what? I basically have been operating that way every since training ended, with the exception of the internal audit work.

OK, enough about that. Valentine’s Day, and the whole weekend, was quite good. Lisa got me the Family Guy DVD set (Seasons 1 & 2), a Mag-Lite, and a pair of boxers. Let me just say that, while not the most romantic gifts ever given, these are very amazing gifts. She really thought about them, and I was extremely surprised and happy. In fact, since I’m in the middle of BFE here in Tennessee, the Family Guy DVD’s are quite possibly the only reason I’m still sane. That and Lisa putting up with my complaining about how I’m not real happy about my job right now. :-)

I was just about to replicate to see if my senior has more work for me to do, but someone else is using the cord, so I can’t. More typing…

I leave tomorrow to go back to Detroit, then I get to spend all Saturday in class at the Becker Conviser review course. Not horrible, but not the most desirable way to spend my Saturday. I don’t remember if I posted this earlier, but I also got an apartment last weekend.

It’s in Maple Village of Southgate, and it’s really nice. While not exactly in the most exciting and happening area of Detroit, I think it will fit my lifestyle nicely. I wasn’t real enthused about moving up to the north side of town, by Royal Oak/Troy/Farmington Hills. Too many people, and too much traffic. Plus the cost of living up there is absolutely ridiculous. I’ll pay around $800/month for my extremely nice apartment in Southgate, while the same apartment up in Troy or Farmington Hills would cost at least $1000, probably closer to $1200.

{break for talking to my senior}

Alright…it looks like I have a little bit of work to do now. This whole thing with not having my senior down here is absolutely stupid. I’m just hired, brand new, and they expect me to be able to know exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. Just makes me feel like no one is really paying attention to what’s going on. Really, who’s bright idea was it to send me down here all by myself?

Other than my job being a big pain this week, not much else going on. New apartment, awesome girlfriend…not too much I can complain about. I’m off to go back to work now, so…hmm…later.
