train me some more

So over the past three days I’ve been at the office in Detroit, sitting in my cubicle, basically doing online training and trying to figure out how to do some admin stuff for my new job. Guess what the last thing I want to be doing after spending three weeks in training is? That’s right…more training.

I’m actually going to an engagement in Toledo, OH tomorrow though. That should be entertaining. I won’t be doing any actual interviewing of the client, but I’ll be taking notes and documenting everything. At least I’ll be able to apply some of the things that I learned in training.

I think thats about all for now. I still haven’t found a permanent place to live in the Detroit area. Actually, I haven’t even looked. I’m going to enlist some help in this area though, so that will be good. It’s time to call Lisa back, so that’s all for now…

still in nyc

Well, I’m still in New York City, and it’s lunch time during my wonderful training session. Overall I’d say the training is going really well, and my trip here has been great. The best part was Lisa coming out to visit for the weekend.

Over the weekend, we went to see a bunch of stuff. Most of Saturday afternoon was spent in Central Park, and then we went down to the Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately, the last boat to actually go to the island had already left, so we couldn’t get out there. While we were at that end of Manhattan, we also walked around the financial district and saw some cool stuff. New York Stock Exchange, the bull, Trinity Church, etc.

On Sunday, we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the afternoon. That was pretty interesting, and we saw a bunch of American and European artifacts. We also walked through a bit of the Egyptian and Asian displays. After that we went to see Grand Central Station, and then to Rockefeller Center.

We went out to dinner each night, with each meal getting progressively better. Sunday night was at a place called The Playwright Restaurant and Pub, and it was just great. We also had breakfast/lunch each day at a place called the Evergreen Restaurant, which was really close to the hotel.

Overall, the weekend was really great. Lisa and I got to spend time together, and we saw some really cool things. There is so much more to see though, and I think I might try to make it over to see the Empire State and Chrysler buildings. But we’ll see how that goes.

The city is getting a little boring, and I’m actually looking forward to going back to Michigan. Never thought I’d say that, but I really need to start getting settled. I don’t want to stay at my cousin’s for a long time, so I need to find an apartment pretty quick. Once that is done, hopefully by the beginning of March, I can really start getting things back to normal.

Not much more from NYC, so I’m off….

much happening…

It’s been quite some time since I’ve written in this thing, so I thought I’d de-stress a little, get some thoughts down, and maybe fill in my readers with what’s been going on in my life. To start out with, let’s just say that the past month has been one that is totally surreal and amazing.

First off, I now have a girlfriend. She has been mentioned previously on here, so if you have been reading you’ll know her name is Lisa. She’s the young lady that went to the firm holiday party with me. Basically, I’ve been having an unreal experience with this girl. We spent a lot of time together over the break before I started my job, nearly to the point where it was too much. I think it was starting to be too much even, but we really have a great time together.

Paragraphs are good. Continuing on the Lisa topic, she got me some really good Christmas gifts. A nice sweater, some coffee mugs (i didn’t have any), a stuffed animal, a couple pictures of her (i didn’t have any), and I know I’m forgetting something (sorry babe :-), i’m a guy). I got her a bracelet, lots of chocolate, a WMU hockey t-shirt, a candle/potpurri gift set, WMU keychain, and a stuffed animal. I’m probably forgetting a gift that I got her too.

What else to say about Lisa…hmmmmm. She’s really nice to me, and we get along great. We have a good time poking fun at one another, joking around, spending time together, etc. To put it simply, she’s a really great girl. And to top it off, she puts up with me. I think I’m starting to annoy/bother/bug her a little since I call a lot. I’ll get into why I’m calling a lot in a little bit, but I think thats the case. It’s also a little bit crazy because when I left Kalamazoo, we had an understanding that we’d only see each other every other week (roughly). Turns out I left Kalamazoo on Sunday, Jan. 4, saw her last weekend, and I’m going to see her again this weekend. Which brings me to the next topic…

I’m in Times Square. What am I doing here, you ask? Well, I’m at training for my new job with the firm. The office is one block from Times Square, and my hotel is actually in Times Square. So thats why I’m going to see Lisa this weekend, since she’s going fly out here. It’s my first time here, and she’s never been, so I thought that since I’m already out here, I could have her come out. It’d be a really fun weekend, and we’d get to do a lot of really cool things.

That’s kind of why I’m on here typing away right now. I don’t want to get out and do all there is to do in this amazing town, and then when she gets here run through it all again. I’d like to do everything at once, and also have someone to hang out with at the same time. I’ve made some friends here at training, but we kind of go our seperate ways once class gets out. Plus, I’m kind of a person that needs to have time to myself after spending a whole day around a big group of people.

So, back to Times Square. This place is quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen in a very long time. I think the last thing I saw that I was in this much awe of were the clubs in Cancun, Mexico. Times Square is always busy, always awake, and bright as day even in the middle of the night. So much going on, so many cool things to look at. If you had asked me 4 months ago where I’d be right now I never would have said Times Square. The NASDAQ banner, MTV studio…all of it is just farking amazing.

So I call Lisa quite a bit from out here, and I think it’s getting to be too much. I just don’t have much going on that I want to do out here, so I call people. I’ve called more people in the past three nights than I have in the past few weeks. It’s just that I get out of class, have to eat dinner, go back to the hotel, drop off the bag, change….and by that time it’s 9:00 or 9:30, and I have no energy to go out to see anything. Tuesday and Wednesday night the firm took us out for drinks and dinner, so I didn’t even get back until 9:00 from that. So, this is the first real night that I’ve had to sit down and do some things that I’d like to do.

And guess what I’d like to do tonight? Well, the first thing that I thought about was typing in here. Haven’t done it in a while, and it feels pretty good. Second, I’m going to go get some dinner. I do have to eat, and probably should at some point tonight. Thirdly, I want to watch some TV. Lastly, I’d like to talk to Lisa and maybe a couple other friends. I actually do have to talk to Lisa since I have to figure out the itinerary for tomorrow.

what else….oh yeah, New Years. I had a great time on New Year’s Eve. I went out with Lisa (of course), her sister Melanie, Lisa’s roommate Brianna. We party hopped around, stopping at my fraternity house, an apartment party for someone I don’t remember, and then finally her friend Brian’s place. Lots of champagne was consumed, and a good time was had by all. I think the funniest part of the whole night was me getting all the guys at Brian’s place to dance with, attempt to kiss, or otherwise harass Lisa’s little sister Melanie. Fun times, fun times…

I really hope to be updating this thing more often from now on. I’m pretty much going to be having my evenings free (hopefully) once I get back to Detroit, so we’ll see how it goes. The only real problem is that I’m staying for a few weeks at my cousin’s, and he doesn’t have broadband. So that’ll put a damper on things, but it’ll work itself out eventually.

That’s about it for now. Oh…Table 487, your chair is broken.
