Happy Holidays

I just thought I would drop a quick note to everyone and say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, etc. Oh, and Happy New Year. Other than that, I have been and am going to be pretty busy for the next couple weeks.

Again, I’m moving to the Detroit area. I’m going to be staying with my cousin John for a little while, and he doesn’t have broadband access. So I won’t be up to speed on the world and this thing while I’m there. I also have to spend a week in Chicago for training, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have during that week.

Other than that, nothing much else to report. I got some good gifts for the family and Lisa. I have to check out now, the family is about to open presents.

Again, Happy Holidays, and have a safe and wonderful New Year!!!

big city

I spent all of yesterday over in the Detroit area. I was bascially driving around looking at places to live, and have decided that I need to make another trip. I looked a one place in Livonia, two in Royal Oak, one in Madison Heights, and 4 lofts downtown. There was one loft downtown in the Eastern Market area that was absolutely amazing, but I think it’s out of my price range.

I also think that my mind is made up to live in the suburbs. Loft/Apartment living downtown would be fricking schweet, but the costs and hassle of parking, along with driving more than necessary to visit some friends make it a bit less desirable. I’m now going to concentrate on the Livonia, Dearborn, and Royal Oak areas. Found a few more places to visit on this thing called the “Internet.”

My next revelation from the trip is how farking huge that area is. I mean, I always knew Detroit was a big city and all, but I think it really hits you when you move there from a small city like Kalamazoo (which reminds me I should update my info page soon). There are just so many suburbs and different ways of living that it’s a bit overwhelming.

On the way back home last night I was thinking to myself “Can I handle all this?” It’s kinda daunting to consider that I’ll be working a full-time job, studying for the CPA exam, and acclimating myself to a whole new environment. For the past two or three years, all I’ve talked about is getting out of Kalamazoo, and moving to a bigger city. Now it’s here, and the next step is a huge one.

Then again, I’ve handled myself pretty well up until now (at least I think so). I’m a college graduate, and I’ve been through a lot of experiences during the 5 1/2 years spent attaining that designation. If those experiences didn’t prepare me for this, then I don’t know what else could have. Overall, I guess I just feel nervous since this is the first huge change in my life for nearly 5 years.

OK….happier things. I didn’t work today, and I don’t really have to for the remainder of break. I am going to go in tomorrow and Friday to help Ralph with the lab, and then once again after Christmas. Pat and Arrifin (my replacements) need to be “refreshed” on how to image the labs, so we’re going to go over that after Christmas.

Lisa is in Florida for another few days. She gets back on Tuesday, and I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to get her for a Christmas gift. She got me a mug engraved with my name for graduation, which was totally unexpected. And she also told me that she’s got my Christmas gift already. Why do girls have to be so on top of everything? She’s really cool…can’t wait till she gets back.

Speaking of graduation, Phil and I had an awesome party here on Saturday. There was lots of food and beer, so all the guests had a great time. My dad had an especially good time, mostly thanks to the champagne and his friend Johnnie Walker Black Label. I think he really was in his element with my fraternity brothers and all the story-telling that was going on. Good times, good times….

Wow, I’ve been rambling on for quite some time. This writing session has been very therapeutic, allowing me to get my thoughts down. Maybe I should write more often, eh? Ah well, off to maybe get something done. This has been productive, but other matters call to my attention….

who’s that man?

So if you’ve been a semi-regular reader of this thing, you have probably noticed that my entry titles rarely have anything to do with the content of the entry. I realize this, and have come to the following conclusion: I don’t care.

While visiting the CollegeHumor web site, I ran across this mp3 file. The original link pointed to a location on this site, but since I’m such a nice guy, I thought that I would host the file. The song is by a guy named Jeff Howard. If you “own” the media and have concerns about it (i.e. copyrights), or if you happen to know more about it, please let me know so I can make an update.

As far as progression towards that whole graduation thing, I’ve got one final down and three to go. My tough ones are on Wednesday and Thursday. I say “tough” with the knowledge that those finals consist of material the professor actually taught. The final I took today was tough, but only to the extent that 90% of the material on it was not taught in class or by any other method. So yeah….

back to how awesome i am….

So earlier this evening I made the requisite trip to Waldo’s Campus Tavern at 1700 hours. I then proceeded to order several alcoholic beverages, and some food, ending the evening around 1900 hours with a $75 tab. And yes, I did buy drinks for other people.

So, I can home and passed out until about 300 hours. And now it’s getting close to 500 hours, so I thought I’d spend some time writing on here. Don’t you all just feel so lucky?

I still haven’t found a place to live in the Detroit area yet. I have a family member that lives somewhere in Dearborn by himself, and I’ve been tentatively offered a bedroom there for a little while. At least until I can find my own place.

I’m not sure where to live though. Royal Oak seems to be the place to live if your a young professional, but loft living right downtown seems to be pretty cool to me. Thoughts or advice anyone can provide are definately appreciated.

OK, so what else is going on in my life? oh yeah….I’M GRADUATING!!!!!! I attended my last class as an undergraduate on Thursday afternoon, and let me tell you; the feeling walking out of there was unbelievable. Five and a half years of being in school, but I’m done. Now all I have to do is take a couple tests (actually four), and then I can walk down that aisle. SCHWEET!!!

Ah yes, and how could I forget about the new…how shall I say…girl that has caught my attention? Lisa, who went to the firm banquet with me a couple weeks ago, is definately a cool girl. We’ve been hanging out a lot, and she’s spent the night over here a couple times. Nothing too serious, but we’ll see how it goes. We’re going to get some dinner and see a movie later today. Don’t exactly know what to do about the moving to Detroit thing and her, but things always work out….

I think thats about all I got for now. I’m so looking forward to moving and getting on with life. I might actually have time to update the site and do some work on my personal machines. Oh, and i’m probably going to get a new toy soon….a Powerbook G4. daddy like…….

9 days

Thats right……..9 days until I graduate from this university. I have 3 classes left to attend, and one presentation left to give. Then next week it’s just four finals, one each day till Thursday. My toughest final by far is on Thursday, which will be Corporate Tax. Not fun, not fun….

OK, so I’ve had struggles with one of my professors this past semester. A buddy of mine in the class made this photoshop of him, and I just felt it necessary to share it with the world.

Now, for those of you who haven’t seen the movie Dogma, I would definately recommend seeing it. Very funny, and that picture will be even funnier if you see the movie.

In summary, I would just like to say that all the gnomes should report to Storage Room 5387.
