The Weekend

So…this past weekend was pretty much the best I’ve had in a while. For some background info, I’ll just let you all know that starting January, I am going to be working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms in Detroit.

So Friday was cool because I went to the fraternity house and hung out with my boy Shaun. We haven’t hung out in quite some time, so it was a good time. Since he’s the president of our social fraternity (Sigma Pi), he had these sorority girls sending their pledges up to visit him all night. They we’re supposed to get a picture of one girl in each group kissing him. Very entertaining to watch these girls blush and giggle about it.

Then there was Saturday night, which was the holiday party with the firm in Detroit (hence the above reference). For some unknown reason, I managed to convice this really cool girl named Lisa to go with me. First off, the firm went all out for this party. It was held at this place called The Roostertail. Talk about expensive and glitzy. Two live bands, casino games, and unbelievable food.

Oh, did I mention that there were free drinks at this holiday party? Yeah, we had a few of those. After the party, we went back to the the Renaissance Center were our hotel was, and walked around there for a while. It was really neat to see the place so dark and un-busy (is that a word?). After that, we headed up to the hotel room and went to bed.

I’m really thinking this Lisa girl is cool. We had an awesome time together at the party, and I think we’re going to hang out sometime this week. What was possibly the best part about the whole night is that we weren’t wasted, and still enjoyed each other’s company. ahhhhhhhhh….ok, I’m thinking to much about this girl. Need to do some homework now. lata….

Cartoons!!!

So my favorite cartoon right now is The Family Guy. I believe that Fox is actually cancelling the show. If you have seen many of the episodes, you’ll probably know why. This show has got to be one of the most politically incorrect TV shows in recent memory.

Here are some of my favorite quotes/bits of conversation from some episodes:

Favorite Convo #1

Lois Griffin: “Peter, you’re drunk again.”

Peter Griffin: “No, I’m just exhausted because I’ve been up all night drinking.”

Favorite Convo #2

Peter Griffin: “Heh, you know I feel kind of bad you guys. I promised my wife I wouldn’t drink.”

Glen Quagmire: “Oh, don’t feel bad Peter.”

Peter Griffin: “Hey, gee, I never thought of it like that.”

At it again

So Micro$oft is at it again. In this thread on Slashdot, you can read the news that Internet Exploder will be getting pop-up blocking with a Service Pack update within a couple years.

It’s just too bad the Mozilla and Opera have had this technology for months or even years now. What will those innovative minds at Microsoft think up next?

Concerns abound with this announcement from the Microsoft front. We all know that the internet/web is a great place for companies to advertise and create commerce. That is what has made it what it is today. And IE is the most prominent browser on the web. So what happens when you take one of these advertising routes away from the most popular browser? Companies start looking for other methods of getting their message to you (read: spam).

Or maybe the companies take a different route with their message. Maybe they start using the massive vulnerabilities and security holes in Micro$oft products to broadcast their message. We are already seeing this with the Windows Messanging Service being used be unscrupulous advertisers.

I am glad that Micro$soft is starting to realize what the consumer wants, but more research and development needs to be done. Secure operating systems must be in wide spread use, and higher concentration marketing campaigns need to be developed. By marketing products to people who might actually want them, companies MIGHT make some money.

For instance, I am a member of ThinkGeek’s mailing list for advertisements/updates/announcements. It does not bother me one bit when they send me an e-mail about new products or sales promotions. In fact, I like it. Now, if only those other companies who spam my Hotmail and Yahoo account could get this simple concept through their thick heads, especially since I asked them not to e-mail me.

been too long

I know, I know…this thing hasn’t been updated in over two weeks. To the countless readers I have, I sincerely apologize. Ok, back to reality…

These past couple weeks have been pretty stressful and eventful. I have to decide between two job offers, and my classes still annoy me. Try knowing that you have a job lined up for after graduation, and then try to continue working hard in school. Believe me…not fun or enjoyable.

So I’m going to head up to BW3’s in a few minutes. Get some wings, and some beer. Not a recipe for disaster, but could definately be fun. I’m gonna hang out with Jared, and hopefully Jimmy can come up. It’ll be a good time…

More updates, and hopefully in more detail, to come over the ensuing weeks. I was bored at the lab before going out tonight, so I just thought I’d make a quick entry. Until then, I’m out.
