waste of time

So I’m sitting here in my “Knowledge Management” class, and I’m thinking that I could not devise a better way to waste time and lose intelligence than being here. What a freaking waste of a class. Words cannot describe how much I dislike this course…

So anyway, I have a new project for my site. Once I finish out the blog software, which basically needs to have a comments addition, I’m going to start a “miniblog.” For an example, take a look at waxy.org. Basically, it is a smaller blog off to the side, and the blog owner just posts interesting links on that one. The main blog is for large amounts of text (like this).

I’m also thinking about doing a redesign of the site, making the blog into the index/homepage. I’d move the menu over to the left hand side, and it would be smaller. The main blog would be in the center column, and the miniblog would be in a small column on the right.

Of course, this will all be done when I have time, which as we know, is pretty much non-existent right now. I really have to work my arse off to complete a distance ed course so I can graduate on time, along with worrying about my other classes. I’m not worried too much about the other classes, but I still need to pay attention to them.

Well, class is almost over, and it’s time for “group work.” Yay. Off I go to try and understand what the hell the prof wants on this project…

Internet Exploder

Well, I’m sure nearly everyone that reads this thing knows about this, but I’m going to write about it anyway. Basically, if you are using Internet Explorer….SWITCH!!! There are several other great browsers out there, my favorites being Mozilla and Firefox. Firefox is a derivative of Mozilla, so it runs similary. You could also take a look at the Opera web browser.

The main spark underneath this posting is a thread on SlashDot. It talks about how Internet Explorer is a horrible web browser, does not follow standards, and is full of security holes.

If you aren’t convinced by Internet Explorer being full of security holes and not following standards, then you should switch for the tabbed browsing and popup blocking. Imagine browsing the internet in only one window, with links loading in the background while you finish reading one page. And to top it off, you never have to worry about popups again.

One thing that really bugs me about Internet Explorer is the non-standards compliance. If you want to see an example, check out my online resume. You’ll notice the menu on the left hand side of the screen. Now, if you look at it in Internet Explorer, and scroll down, you’ll see that the menu does not “fix” itself and follow the page down. If you view the same page in another browser (i.e. Mozilla, Firebird, or Opera), you’ll see that the menu does follow down the side and stay “fixed.” The basic reason behind this is that Internet Explorer is non-standards compliant. The CSS spec by the W3C says that when a div tag’s position is specified as “fixed” the items inside that div tag should stay in place when the page is scrolled. This is the case on that page.

Now, for those of you who don’t care about the reasoning behind how the fixed menu works, then just understand that Internet Explorer is not compliant with the standards put out by the World-Wide Web Consortium. Microsoft has time and time again chosen to not follow standards put out by many industry groups (not just in web browsers), and should not be rewarded with market share or money for doing so. Do your part to make Microsoft listen to consumers, businesses, and industry groups by switching to another, more standards compliant and secure web browser.

M Go Blow

ha ha…….Michigan lost. That just made my day. Oh, of course Michigan State winning was cool. But seeing those stinking Wolverines lose makes it that much better.

So anyway, Sigma Pi had a cool party last night, and I didn’t make it back home until about 4:30 AM. The shirt that I wore is covered in highlighter, and basically a good time was had by all.

I’m starting to listen to a little bit of country. I still can’t stand the twangy, slow, my wife/dog/son/truck left me songs, but country rock is fun. It’s even more fun to listen to when your buzzed up and feel like singing. Very singable, very singable….

So this blog entry is about as much as I’ve accomplished today. I did make dinner, but other than that all I’ve done is watch college football. Granted, that’s fun and good, but I do need to get some things done. Tomorrow is probably going to be the day for that I think.

Can’t wait for next weekend. Pat is coming from DC, it’s Homecoming, and if you bet money that Joe isn’t going to consume alcohol you would be VERY stupid. bwah ha ha…

the week is over

Well…not quite. I still have to go into work tomorrow and deal with some things. But class is done. I had a midterm exam in Advanced Tax today…ugh. I don’t know how well I did, but I do know I didn’t get an A. Next time I’ll do better since I have an idea how much to study now.

The weekend is shaping up nicely. The fraternity is having a graffiti party tomorrow night, so that will be fun. Saturday will be spent sleeping, watching football, and doing homework. Sunday will probably be spend doing homework too. I need to go to Meijer sometime and get groceries at some point in time.

Hmmm…hot links. What to post? Haven’t seen any eye-popping ones as of late. I really not sure how many people read this thing. I know Pat does from time to time, but who else are my readers? If you care to let me know, then….hmmmm….let me know. That came out weird. Anywho….

Back to the links. You people may want to check out the Adult Fun Site, specifically the funny pictures section. Be careful though, most if not all of the site is NSFW. And what can I say…Britney Spears is freaking hot. That is all.
