bored, lethargic

I’m really feeling it today. I had an awesome weekend, don’t get me wrong, but life is catching up quick. I don’t have a secure job offer from anyone, my CIS 464 class is going to shit, and I don’t really want to be at the business college right now.

Yes, I know, I’m whining. How hard can the life of a college student that doesn’t have class on Friday or Monday be? Well, I guess my anwser is that it isn’t that hard. I’m just having some personal issues that are taking up thought cycles in my brain.

Worrying about my job prospects, worried about graduation, worried about whether I can be successful, etc. Most days are actually pretty good, and I have a good outlook on life. Today is not one of those days. I don’t know if I’ll get much accomplished today, other than going to class.

I kind of worried about what job(s) I should take or be applying for. I’m really split on whether to go for systems and the computer side stuff, or to head for straight accounting. I think I’m going to be reading the Seven Habits book over the next couple weeks to get my feet back on the ground and straighten my mind out.

I have to attend a group meeting for CIS 499 after class, and then it’s off to get a haircut. I’m so tired right now, I’ll probably just crash when I get back from the haircut. Until next time…

late entry

Well, here I am on a plane, flying back home. I’m not really entering this on the planes, since I have to be at home to do that, but I’m writing this entry on the plane. I’ll paste it to the blog entry page when I get home. The current time is 8:27 PM, on Monday, September 29, 2003. Anywho…

This weekend was a lot of fun. Pat and I got to hang out a lot, which is cool, and I got to see some of Washington, D.C. Not much, but enough to make me feel like I saw some historic things. I’m not looking forward to this week, since I have a lot of things to do. I didn’t get much done this weekend as far as school goes, but I’ll get up early tomorrow and get some of that done.

I got a second interview with the one Big 4 accounting firm, and I could not be more psyched about the possibility of working for that company. They are one of the largest accounting firms in the world, and the people are very cool. I have to decide if I want to go into the systems side, or auditing. I’ll let you all know what position I end up deciding to interview for.

Other than that, not much to report. I think the flight attendant is about to tell us to put our electronic devices away, so I have to wrap this up. Maybe I’ll add more, or make another entry when I get home. We’ll see…

Out of Town

So I’m out here on the east coast in Maryland. The closest big city is Annapolis, but I’m actually staying in Crownsville. Last night, we went to the bars in Baltimore. Let me tell you…we had a good time. I’m not really sure how we had a good time (read: Joe had a lot to drink), but I know we did. And Pat can’t tell me how we had a good time either, since he was in the same shape I was in.

Anyway, just thought I’d post something while I’m out here. This weekend has already exceeded expectations on the amount of fun we’re going to have. Lata…

A poem

I just got this from a friend (I am NOT this clever)…

A Morning Poem

I woke early one morning,
The earth lay cool and still
When suddenly a tiny bird
Perched on my window sill,
He sang a song so lovely
So carefree and so gay,
That slowly all my troubles
Began to slip away.
He sang of far off places
Of laughter and of fun,
It seemed his very trilling
Brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers
Crept slowly out of bed,
Then gently shut the windows
And crushed his fucking head.
I am NOT a morning person.

So there….

off to washington

Boy, the end of this week is hectic. Tomorrow my plane leaves from South Bend at 12:00 PM. I have class all day today…I’m even typing this as I wait for class to start. Then tonight I have a meeting for my accounting fraternity, with a social thing after that.

So guess what all that means? Thats right, I have no time to pack for the trip to Washington DC today. I knew this ahead of time, so I was up until 4:00 AM last night/this morning packing for the trip. So basically I’m packed…

Top all this off with an interview with one of the Big 4 accounting firms coming out of the blue for 8:00 AM on Friday morning, and suddenly the end of the week is hectic.

And my dad called me this morning, sounding very nervous. Apparently his office got ripped off last night. This really sucks for him, since they were all supposed to move into a new building this weekend. I don’t know how much is gone, but it sounds like the theives got pretty much all of his computer equipment. Assholes…

Last bit of news for today, kind of funny. So I’m in my office this morning about 30 minutes ago, kind of preparing myself for class. Someone starts pounding on the door, so I go up to see who it is. It’s some lady who isn’t a professor in the Business College. Still a professor, mind you, but not someone who I see on a regular basis. She is having some sort of problem with the projector system and her Macintosh laptop.

She was very annoyed and distraught when I told her I couldn’t help. Apparently she needs some sort of “adapter” to convert from Mac video to standard VGA. Guess what? I don’t have it. Nor do I know where to find it. This did not please her. I told her to contact the person that does know, Dave Witt, but she didn’t like that idea. You know what lady? Deal. Not my problem you are waiting until now to get this solved, or that you don’t have your own equipment.

Oh, and I have found quite possibly the most addictive game known to mankind. It’s called Fishy, and I could not do some work last night because of it.

Well, now I have to go listen to someone with a doctorate who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Such is the waste of my tuition dollars.

i got up early

Well, like the title says, I got up early this morning. I had to do a paper on “Data Mining,” whatever that is. Seriously, can the assignments for my senior level classes get anymore ridiculous? I doubt it…

Which brings me to my next point. If any of you that read this (which I don’t know if anyone does, but oh well) have experiences with professors or instructors who don’t know what their talking about, let me know. I’m going to be writing a research/opinion article on professors at the university level. So yeah.

I also found a new site that begs for attention. BlinkTag.org is a little like FARK, and a little like fazed. Stop in and check them out.

Lastly, I’m posting this picture. I don’t remember where I found it, but it’s been around the internet for a while. If only it could be invented…

la la la la la

OK, so I don’t know what’s going on with the title for this entry, but whatever. I’m sitting around in the office (not getting paid) waiting for my next exam. See, I’m taking this CPA Pre-test thing to get an idea about how the new CPA Exam is going to be. I took one earlier today at 9:00 AM, and the next one starts at 1:00 PM. Yes, I finished the first one early.

So the job search is not going so hot. I got declined for an interview with Crowe Chizek a couple days ago, and I have yet to hear back from several other firms. We’ll see whats going on in the next few days. If anyone knows of a job that I might be interested in, please let me know. BroncoJobs is not working out so well for me right now.

Bah…I am tired. I don’t think going out to the bar last night was a good idea. But how can you pass up 75 cent bottles of Busch Light? I don’t know…this has to be the greatest idea in bar history. Next to 50 cent drafts at Wayside on Wednesday night.

Next weekend is the big trip to Washington DC. Pat and I are going to be going to the bars and clubs. We will be drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Hot women in that vicinity…you have been warned.

And I know this post has no rhyme or reason to it. But neither does life right now. So deal….

here we go again

Well, as some of you may have noticed, there are a few entries missing from the blog. Others of you may just notice that it looks like it’s been 3 weeks since I updated this thing. My host somehow “lost” my updates to the site since September 2, 2003, so updates between then and Monday, September 15 are gone. It boggles my mind how this could have happened, since I was promised “daily backups.” Go ahead, read it here.

I’m not real sure what to do, but I feel a little trapped. I would hate to move my site AGAIN, for the second time in 2 months. The admin I’ve been talking to claims the problem is fixed, and that backups are happening correctly now, along with the original problem (whatever it was) having been fixed. Anyway, thats what’s going on with the updates.

So I was reading this article, which I got the link to from FARK. How stupid can these people be? I mean, come on, it’s a damn commercial. I don’t know anyone who would think “Gee, the car is committing suicide, so I guess I should too.” Give me a break. Too many damned interest groups in this world. That’s the problem with the world today I tell you!!!
